The public park in Duraz has been reopened to the public with a new look following a comprehensive maintenance and development programme carried out by the Northern Municipality.
The revamp was part of the municipality’s wider efforts to enhance public spaces and encourage healthy lifestyles across the governorate.
The renovation was formally inaugurated yesterday morning by Northern Municipality director-general Lamya Al Fadhala, in the presence of area councillor Bassem Abu Idrees, senior ministry officials and municipal staff.
For years, the park had suffered repeated vandalism and neglect, leaving it overlooked during previous remodelling projects.
The newly completed works are intended to revitalise the facility and provide residents with a safe, family-friendly environment.
The upgrades included replacing the asphalt playground surface with artificial grass, installing modern solar-powered lighting, placing surveillance cameras to boost safety and adding sail-shaped shade structures over children’s play areas.
It also included refurbishing washrooms, upgrading the cafeteria, repainting columns, repairing benches and replacing fencing around the sports field with additional lighting.
The project also introduced new outdoor gym equipment to encourage fitness in open-air spaces.
Ms Al Fadhala said the initiative was part of the municipality’s broader plan to modernise public parks and strengthen community infrastructure.
“Our goal is to provide a safe, healthy and welcoming environment for citizens and residents,” she said.
“I commend the dedication of our technical and administrative teams who worked tirelessly to deliver this project at the highest standards.”
Mr Abu Idrees praised the ministry’s backing and stressed the importance of community responsibility in protecting public facilities.
“Duraz Park has long been a demand of the residents, and this development is a qualitative addition that truly serves families in the area,” he said.
“For years, the park was repeatedly vandalised and left without proper upgrades, but now it has been transformed into a modern space that reflects people’s aspirations.
“I urge all citizens to protect these gains and ensure the park remains a welcoming destination for generations.”
Contractor AgroGreen’s project manager Mohammed Al Shajri highlighted the company’s commitment to quality.
“We have ensured the use of modern materials and technologies to deliver a sustainable and high-standard facility,” he said.
