FUTSAL – BAHRAIN routed Brunei Darussalam 9-0 yesterday in their concluding game of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers.
The kingdom’s senior men’s futsal national team scored seven of their goals in the first half as they made an outstanding start to the Group B clash, played in Bangkok, Thailand.
Salman Al Mulla led the Bahrainis’ charge, scoring four goals – including in the second, seventh, 17th, and 18th minutes.
Ammar Hasan Ali added a brace, finding the net in the eighth and 18th minutes, while Ahmed Antar contributed a goal in the 10th minute.
The Bahrain goal fest continued in the second half with Mohammed Abdulla Ali (22nd) and Ali Al Araibi contributed goals in the 22nd and 33rd minutes.
The result marked the first and only win for Bahrain in the qualification competition. They went to three points while Brunei Darussalam stayed on zero in last place on the Group B table.
Despite their win, Bahrain will not be playing in next year’s AFC Futsal Asian Cup, which will be held in Jakarta from January 27 to February 7. This follows their two losses against South Korea and Thailand in their first two assignments prior to their win yesterday.
Bahrain had played in the continental tournament four times in the past, including in the last three editions held in Chinese Taipei in 2018, in Kuwait in 2022, and in Thailand in 2024.
The nationals made their debut in the 2002 event, also in Jakarta.
