HANDBALL – DEFENDING champions Al Najma routed Samaheej 38-22 last night in their week five encounter of the 2025-26 Khalid Bin Hamad Bahrain Handball League.
Najma were in a class of their own in the contest, played at the Bahrain Handball Federation Arena in Um Al Hassam. They led 20-9 at the half and never wavered the rest of the way.
With the result, Najma secured their fifth successive triumph and are the only remaining unbeaten side in the new season. They also handed Samaheej their fourth loss to go with just a single win so far.
In yesterday’s other game, Tubli posted a hard-earned 32-27 triumph against Al Tadhamun.
Tubli roared back with a stellar second half after falling behind at the break 13-15. They came away with their second victory in four outings while giving Tadhamun loss number three after five tries.
The fifth week of league action concludes tonight with a single fixture on the card. It is an exciting clash between Al Shabab and Barbar, scheduled for a 7pm start at the same venue.
This year’s league marks its 52nd edition, and it is being held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The regular season is to be played in a double round-robin. Following this phase, the top four clubs will advance to the Super League, which will eventually determine the overall 2025-26 champions, while the teams ranked fifth through eighth will qualify for the lower-tier President’s Cup.
