A draft law ratifying the agreement between Bahrain and the International Date Council on the establishment of the headquarters of the International Date Observatory in Bahrain has been referred to Parliament for approval.
The new observatory will serve as a specialised centre for collecting, analysing, and publishing reliable international data and indicators related to the date industry, supporting evidence-based decision-making across member states of the council.
Under the agreement, signed in Manama on September 22, 2025, the permanent headquarters of the observatory will be based in Bahrain.
It will enjoy legal personality and full legal capacity to enter into contracts, acquire property, and conduct its operations in accordance with Bahraini law. The government will also provide the necessary facilities to enable the observatory to carry out its duties effectively.
“Once approved, the establishment of the International Date Observatory is expected to reinforce Bahrain’s leadership in promoting global agricultural research and trade in date production,” said the government.
