It has been one year since Bahrain bid farewell to one of its most distinguished leaders, Farouk Yousuf Almoayyed, who passed away on November 25, 2024.
As the nation marks this solemn anniversary, his profound influence on Bahrain’s economic, social, and corporate landscape remains ever-present.
Mr Almoayyed’s visionary leadership, unwavering principles, and lifelong commitment to advancing his family’s enterprise helped build one of the kingdom’s most respected organisations.
Born on May 26, 1944, and raised in Manama’s historic Fareej Al Fadhel, he grew up grounded in humility, hard work and service – values that shaped his character and guided him throughout his life. After completing his education in the United Kingdom, he returned home with a determination to elevate both the family business and Bahrain’s growing economy.
Under his leadership, Y K Almoayyed & Sons entered transformative phases of growth, expanding across automotive, retail, electronics and real estate.
His strategic vision forged enduring partnerships with global brands, establishing a reputation built on trust, integrity and excellence.
Beyond the family responsibilities at Y K Almoayyed & Sons, Mr Almoayyed played pivotal roles across several national institutions. He served as chairman of the National Bank of Bahrain, Bahrain Duty Free, Gulf Hotels Group, and Bahrain National Holding. His contributions extended into education and public policy through advisory roles at Harvard University and Georgetown University, as well as through his involvement with the Economic Development Board, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, and the Shura Council as deputy speaker. He also helped found Ibn Khuldoon National School and served as chairman of the Arab Academy for Research & Studies – Ahlia University and Ahlia School.
A dedicated philanthropist and long-serving member of the Rotary Club of Manama, he was honoured with the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award at the Bahrain Award for Entrepreneurship by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and received the Medal of Civil Merit from King Felipe VI of Spain, a recognition befitting the breadth of his impact.
Today, his presence continues to be deeply felt.
His vision guides the organisation he helped shape, now under the chairmanship of his son, Mohammed Almoayyed, with his siblings, Fareed, Layla, Mona, Salwa and Amal Almoayyed, continuing to uphold the values and vision he instilled, alongside a dedicated board.
Farouk Yousuf Almoayyed’s principles inspire all who had the privilege of working with him, and his legacy endures, not only in the institutions he built but in the generations who uphold the values he lived by.
