His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, today witnessed McLaren driver Lando Norris secure the Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship at the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2025, held at the Yas Marina Circuit.
His Royal Highness noted that McLaren achieved its first double championship in 27 years, with today’s win in Abu Dhabi following their success in the Constructors’ Championship in Singapore.
His Royal Highness extended his congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on this occasion, noting that McLaren’s distinguished achievements across global motorsport continue to enhance the Kingdom of Bahrain’s standing.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to further advancing the sports sector in line with HM the King’s far-reaching vision, emphasising the sector’s role in supporting the Kingdom’s comprehensive economic development.
His Royal Highness emphasised the Gulf Cooperation Council’s expertise, advanced capabilities, and opportunities that enable the successful hosting of regional Formula 1 races.
His Royal Highness extended his congratulations to HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of the Presidential Court of the UAE on the successful hosting of the race.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister wished the UAE continued development and prosperity and wished the organisers at the Yas Marina Circuit continued success in hosting future Formula 1 races.
His Royal Highness also extended his congratulations to HE Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, and its Board of Directors and executive members, as well as members of the Mclaren F1 team, on winning both championships, which reflects the dedicated efforts to strengthening Bahrain’s presence and success in Formula 1.
His Royal Highness expressed gratitude to all those contributing to this achievement and wished them continued success.
Before the start of the race, His Royal Highness was given a tour of the Yas Marina Circuit, during which HRH was briefed on the final preparations being made for the race.
At the circuit, His Royal Highness met several senior officials.
