The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) is set to stage Hawa Al Manama, from December 25 to January 15.
The second edition of the cultural event is part of the Celebrate Bahrain season and will feature a range of interactive experiences inspired by Bahrain as it was between the 1960s and 1990s – a time that witnessed significant cultural and economic transformation.
BTEA chief executive Sarah Buhiji said that the event’s setting in the Old Manama Suq was especially significant because it reflected the historical importance of the capital city, and the pivotal role it played in shaping the economic and social identity of the kingdom.
“The old suq is one of Bahrain’s most important urban landmarks,” she said.
“It holds a special place in the hearts and memories of Bahrainis and our brothers and sisters from neighbouring GCC countries with whom we share historical ties and a common cultural identity. This was particularly true during the period being recreated by this event.”
Ms Buhiji added that by showcasing the rich cultural and architectural heritage of the capital, the event adds diversity to the tourism experiences available in Bahrain, in line with the objectives of the Tourism Strategy 2022 to 2026.
Visitors can expect cultural and heritage activities, which have been designed to offer authentic experiences and locations.
These include special performances, and historical exhibitions and experiences that recreate details of daily life in the suq over the decades, along with interactive fun for families and visitors of all ages.
The event will also feature dedicated areas for traditional food and local crafts, as well as a sweet making event celebrating authentic Bahraini flavours and Manama’s rich culinary heritage.
Other attractions include traditional games, carnivals, cultural and historical showcases, shopping experiences at Al Zainah Plaza and Yateem Centre, traditional shops, antique stores and more, all highlighting both, traditional and commercial areas that have long been an integral part of Manama’s commerce.
