BASKETBALL – AL Najma held on for a hard-earned 77-74 victory over Al Ahli last night in their week four game in the 2025-26 Zain Bahrain Basketball League, currently being played at Zain Basketball Arena in Um Al Hassam Sports Complex.
Ahli fought back to within a single possession multiple times in the final period, including with just 3.4 seconds to play following an Ali Hussain three-pointer from the left corner. But Ahmed Aldurazi buried both his free-throws after being fouled to stop the clock, icing the win for Najma.
Ahli had no timeouts remaining in the contest and Najma got a deflection key deflected after Maitham Jameel tried to rush the ball down the floor for a late attempt to tie.
Hassan Fahad led all scorers with 20 points off the bench for Najma, while Donovan Smith chipped in with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and six steals and Aldurazi had 12 points and seven assists.
Elijah Tillman paced Ahli with 17 points in the loss, while Jameel and Hussain Salman chipped in with 14 apiece.
Najma claimed their second win in as many outings in this season’s top-tier premier league, while Ahli suffered their third loss in four outings.
In another game yesterday in the lower League B, Samaheej outclassed Isa Town 76-52.
Tonight, Manama face Nuwaidrat at 8pm in the premier league, while Al Ettihad take on Bahrain Club at 6pm in League B.
