GOVERNMENT procurement requests valued at approximately BD3 million were reviewed during the fifth meeting of the Information and Communication Technology Governance Committee (ICTGC).
The meeting, held via video conference, was chaired by Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) chief executive Mohammed Ali Al Qaed.
Key projects on the agenda included a major digital forensic laboratory for the Public Prosecution. Leveraging artificial intelligence, the facility aims to streamline digital investigations and align the kingdom’s legal system with international forensic standards.
The committee also discussed the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry’s Unmanned Aircraft (Drone) Traffic Management Platform. The system is designed to automate licensing and track flight operations to enhance safety and regulatory oversight.
Furthermore, plans to upgrade the National Revenue System to incorporate excise tax requirements were reviewed. The move aims to simplify billing and auditing processes while strengthening financial monitoring tools.
Other discussions focussed on the continuous development of IT infrastructure across various government entities to ensure business continuity and service efficiency.
The meeting was attended by iGA deputy chief executive and committee vice-chairman Dr Khalid Ahmed Almutawa, Education Ministry under-secretary Nawal Al Khater, Finance and National Economy Ministry assistant under-secretary Noora Al Assam, Health Ministry assistant under-secretary Dr Samya Bahram, and University of Bahrain Dean of the College of IT Dr Mazen Mohammed Ali.
