CRICKET – ABRAJ Super Kings and Abraj Rocking Royals were both victorious in the latest match week of the sixth season in Abraj Premier League (APL6).
Super Kings pulled off an exciting two-wicket victory over MJ Yodhas in a closely fought match.
After winning the toss, Super Kings chose to field first and were tested by a competitive batting effort from the Yodhas, who posted 140 for eight in their 20 overs. The innings was highlighted by Prem Devassy’s blistering 38 off just 18 balls, which included four boundaries and two sixes, while captain Ajay P contributed a steady 20 not out, Deepesh 17 not out, and Sagar 14 runs.
Haresh Balan Nair took two wickets while Tarun, Varun, Sushant, Viral and Ashwani bowled economical spells to restrict the scoring while taking a wicket each.
Chasing 141, Super Kings lost early wickets and the match remained evenly balanced for most of the innings. However, Tarun turned the game on its head with a superb unbeaten 45 off 23 deliveries, striking five fours and two sixes at a strike rate close to 200. Captain Sushant Khar added valuable support with 18 not out.
Deepak Bhakuni and Sagar K took two wickets each, while Ajay, Prem, and Pankaj bowled economical spells to restrict the scoring while taking one wicket apiece.
Super Kings reached 143 for eight in 19.4 overs to seal a dramatic last-over win. Khar’s all-round brilliance earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Match award.
Meanwhile, Rocking Royals secured a thrilling two-wicket victory over Abraj White Tigers in another APL6 encounter.
After winning the toss, Rocking Royals opted to field and were rewarded with a disciplined bowling effort that restricted White Tigers to 100 all out in 18 overs. White Tigers struggled early, losing wickets regularly, but Sachin Kadam steadied the innings with a composed 26 off 29 balls, while Shrawan Soni added a brisk 15.
For Rocking Royals, Vignesh, Anil, and Ashwani Pratap picked up two wickets each and Sagar, Dilleswar, and Akhil took one wicket apiece.
In reply, the chase was far from straightforward. Rocking Royals also lost early wickets, but captain Sagar Dholaria led from the front with an aggressive 26 off just 14 deliveries, striking four boundaries to shift the momentum. Valuable contributions from Surender Singh and Rakesh ensured the target remained within reach. Sachin nearly turned the match on its head for White Tigers with an excellent bowling performance of four for 17 in three overs, but Rocking Royals held their nerve in the closing stages and Sharwan, Jaggi, and Mukesh took one wicket each.
Rocking Royals eventually reached 101 for eight in 13.4 overs, sealing a narrow but well-earned win in a tightly contested, low-scoring match.
Anil Verma’s all-round brilliance earned him the MVP of the Match award.
