Farmers, innovators and researchers across Bahrain can now compete for cash prizes of up to BD10,000 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the agricultural sector.
The sixth edition of the King Hamad Award for Agricultural Development aims to support local farmers, encourage sustainable practices and projects and enhance research within the field, all in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
It is held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and president of the Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD).
“The award provides a competitive platform to showcase outstanding initiatives, farmers and the latest research in the field,” said a statement by the NIAD yesterday. “It also contributes to achieving food security, preserving natural resources and supporting the kingdom’s green economy.”
This year’s sixth edition includes three main categories.
- The Best Agricultural Project honours innovative initiatives in agricultural production, services, technologies and agribusiness.
- The Best Bahraini Farmer recognises the efforts of exceptional farmers.
- The Best Agricultural Studies and Research category supports scientific innovation in areas such as smart agriculture, conservation of natural resources and the enhancement of food and water security.
“Winners will receive cash prizes of up to BD10,000, along with a commemorative shield and certificates of appreciation,” the statement added, stating that they will also have the right to use the award’s logo in promotional and marketing materials and gain exposure for their projects and research through media outlets and digital platforms.
Launched in 2021 by HRH Princess Sabeeka, the award aims to create a positive competitive environment among agricultural entrepreneurs and Bahraini farmers, as well as researchers, in a way that contributes to preserving the agricultural sector, developing it and ensuring its sustainability.

In addition, NIAD has a series of other events in store this year and will host the Bahrain International Garden Show from April 1 to 5 at Exhibition World Bahrain. This annual event will showcase innovations, technologies and sustainable solutions, reinforcing Bahrain’s position as a regional hub for agriculture.
Following the success of previous phases, NIAD is also continuing its national afforestation campaign, ‘Forever Green’, which includes planting initiatives to increase green spaces across the kingdom.
NIAD continues to support the annual Farmers Market at Budaiya Botanical Gardens and operates a permanent market to promote local products and increase business opportunities for agricultural workers.
- Those interested in the King Hamad Award for Agricultural Development can apply through NIAD’s website at www.niadbh.com, in accordance with the conditions specified for each category. The application period for the Best Agricultural Project category runs from January to May. Applications for the Best Bahraini Farmer category will be accepted during January only, while submissions for the Best Agricultural Studies and Research category will remain open from January to December.
