The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) honoured 44 Kuwaiti female innovators on Wednesday, during the occasion of the International Day for Women and Girls in Science.
Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, said in a press statement during the event, held at the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre (ASCC), that honouring this constellation of innovators aligns with Article (14) of the Kuwaiti Constitution and the "Creative Human Capital" pillar of the New Kuwait 2035 Vision.
Shaikha Jawaher, in her capacity as Chairperson of the National Committee for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security, affirmed that the celebration reflects Kuwait's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 5 regarding gender equality and Goal 9 related to industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
She explained that these efforts align with Kuwait's voluntary pledges and commitments for its membership in the UN Human Rights Council for the 2024-2026 term, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and the Beijing Platform for Action aimed at empowering women and enhancing their rights.
She pointed out that the event activates the "Kuwait Declaration" issued at the 45th session of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in 2025, which focuses on empowering women in all fields and emphasising the role of universities and research centres in preserving Gulf identity and heritage.
Shaikha Jawaher noted that the celebration coincides with this year's UN General Assembly theme, "From Vision to Impact: Redefining STEM through Closing the Gender Gap."
She emphasised the importance of moving from theoretical frameworks to practical policies and initiatives that create a tangible impact in the scientific research environment.
She expressed pride in the international awards achieved by the honourees, reflecting the significant female presence in science sectors, which amounts to 70 per cent according to global indicators, demonstrating the state's interest in unleashing women's knowledge and creative potential.
The Assistant Foreign Minister concluded by stressing that this approach is based on the vision of Amir Shaikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, which affirms that empowering women in science and technology represents a fundamental pillar for enhancing national competitiveness and establishing a knowledge-based economy.
