Bahrain’s participation as a founding member of the Board of Peace aligns with its diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue, regional stability and international co-operation.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani also emphasised the kingdom’s position in support of a just and comprehensive peace in Gaza, based on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The minister was briefing MPs and Shura Council members on the outcomes of His Majesty King Hamad’s participation in the first meeting of the Board of Peace, held in Washington last week.
Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam and Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh chaired the meeting between the minister and legislative authority yesterday.
It was attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ghanim Al Buainain and senior officials from both chambers and relevant ministries.
Mr Al Musallam and Mr Al Saleh commended His Majesty’s participation, describing it as a reflection of Bahrain’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and support for efforts to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and advance the reconstruction of Gaza.
Dr Al Zayani said that the proposed peace framework includes reconstruction of Gaza, facilitation of humanitarian assistance, protection of civilians and support for transitional governance arrangements.
The meeting underscored the role of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting Bahrain’s foreign policy objectives and enhancing co-ordination between the legislative and executive branches.
The US-led Board of Peace (BoP), or the Peace Board, is an international organisation with the stated purpose of promoting peacekeeping around the world.
US President Donald Trump first proposed the board last September when he announced his plan to end Israel’s war in Gaza.
Addressing its first meeting, the King had emphasised that the initiative offered a historic chance ‘to transform the ruins of conflict into a landscape of security, aspiration and hope for the Palestinian people’.
In his speech, His Majesty had praised the initiative as an ‘extraordinary and pivotal’ opportunity to reconstruct Gaza and chart a new course for the Middle East.
