The Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) handled 23,709 emergency reports in Makkah Region during the first half of Ramadan as part of its operational plan to serve the Grand Mosque's pilgrims and visitors.
A total of 8,798 cases were transported to healthcare facilities to complete medical treatment.
Specialised emergency tracks recorded 41 cardiac catheterisation cases and 49 stroke cases, which were handled according to approved medical protocols to ensure rapid intervention and transfer to specialised centres.
Meanwhile, air ambulance services responded to 28 emergency cases, with 15 patients transported by air ambulance to healthcare facilities for advanced medical care.
Emergency care units inside the Grand Mosque also contributed to faster response times through advanced stations equipped with resuscitation devices and vital-sign monitoring equipment at high-density locations such as the mataf, corridors, and courtyards.
The “Rufaidah” electric emergency chair further enhanced response speed in crowded areas inside the Grand Mosque thanks to its manoeuvrability among crowds and stabilisation system that ensures patient safety during transport.
The 10th day of Ramadan recorded the highest number of emergency reports, with 1,860 calls, while the busiest operational hours were between 4:00 pm and midnight.
Director General of the Saudi Red Crescent branch in Makkah Region Hassan Nafea said the figures reflect the scale of field efforts dedicated to visitors to the Grand Mosque. He added that the results also highlight strong coordination with partners across the health system and relevant authorities to enhance response speed and the quality of emergency services.
