A two-month ban on crab fishing will take effect today in Bahrain’s territorial waters.
The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) announced yesterday that the move is part of ongoing efforts to preserve marine resources and ensure the sustainability of the marine environment.
The council said that the decision aims to protect crab stocks during breeding periods, contributing to maintaining ecological balance. It urged fishermen to comply with the ban, which runs until May 15, noting that any illegal crab fishing during this period will subject violators to legal action.
The SCE also stressed that fishermen, who find crabs caught in their fishing equipment during the ban period, must immediately return them to the sea, taking the necessary care to ensure their safety.
