The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has condemned the attacks carried out by Iran on Bahrain.
These acts represented a violation of international humanitarian law and a threat to regional security and stability, it said. The Institution emphasised that targeting civilians or endangering their lives constituted a clear breach of international legal standards.
On the occasion of Arab Human Rights Day, the NIHR called upon the international community, human rights organisations, and Arab states, particularly members of the Arab League, to fulfil their responsibilities by condemning these attacks.
It underscored the necessity of respecting state sovereignty and adhering to international law. Such commitment was essential to protecting civilians and enhancing security and stability in the region.
Arab Human Rights Day is observed annually on March 16, marking the anniversary of the 2008 entry into force of the Arab Charter on Human Rights. Following its adoption at the 2004 Tunis Summit, the Charter serves to reaffirm the commitment of Arab nations to strengthening human rights, protecting fundamental freedoms, and safeguarding human dignity.
The NIHR affirmed the importance of adhering to the provisions of the Arab Charter on Human Rights and promoting a culture of respect for rights and freedoms, in line with the principles contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and relevant international conventions.
It also emphasised that respect for the rules of international humanitarian law and international human rights law represented a fundamental commitment aimed at protecting civilians and civilian objects and safeguarding human dignity.
