CYCLING – PHIL Bauhaus will lead the Team Bahrain Victorious line-up at the Ronde van Limburg elite men’s road race in Belgium today, with the German sprinter targeting a strong result should the race come down to a bunch sprint.
Bauhaus will be supported by Italian teammates Alberto Bruttomesso and Alessandro Borgo, forming a solid core around the team’s sprint ambitions.
Alongside them, a group of promising Bahrain Victorious Development Team riders will step up, including Irishman Seth Dunwoody, fresh from an impressive second-place finish at Paris-Roubaix Espoirs, as well as Finn Kasper Borremans and Russian Mikita Babovich, who will look to seize opportunities in the break and cover key moves. Italian Leonardo Consolidani, also part of the development squad, will play a key support role, working to position Bauhaus in the final and control the race when needed.
The 178-kilometre one-day race begins at Kolonel Dusartplein in Hasselt and finishes on the Elisabethwal in Tongeren-Borgloon. The parcours features a mix of climbs and cobbled sectors that will test positioning and resilience throughout the day. After an opening phase, the peloton enters a local loop around Bilzen-Hoeselt, tackling the cobbles of the Maastrichterallee twice alongside a double ascent of the Keiberg.
The decisive phase comes on the Limburg Loop, used during the 2024 European Championships, where three laps include the climbs of the Kolmontberg and Zammelenberg, followed by technical cobbled sections such as Manshoven and Op de Kriezel, where crosswinds could also play a role.
“We are excited for this race,” said Bahrain Victorious sports director Enrico Gasparotto. “We have young riders making a step up who have already shown great potential.
“Phil is our leader and, if it comes to a bunch sprint, we are confident he can deliver a strong result. Seth has just shown great quality in Roubaix Espoirs, and we know Kasper and Mikita have the potential to look for opportunities.
“As always in these races, positioning will be crucial. It’s a great race to give our younger riders another step in their careers, but we will also be fighting for a top result.”
