An IndiGo Airlines pilot expressed his gratitude to a passenger who brought doughnuts for the flight crew to mark World Pilot Day.
Captain Manik Mehta lightheartedly told passengers over the intercom that the airline "totally encourages such behaviours and acts of kindness... this is a lesson for everyone—donuts, savouries, anything," prompting laughter throughout the cabin.
However, the light-hearted moment sparked a debate online, with commenters pointing out that accepting food from passengers could pose a significant safety risk. One social media user noted: "I would be way too sceptical if my flight's pilot or crew member had those donuts before or during the flight... how can you confirm they aren't spiked?"
Captain Mehta responded to the concerns by clarifying that he was simply expressing heartfelt thanks for the kind gesture. "Let’s just go with the sentiment and not get too technical here! We are very professional that way!" he stated.
He further reiterated the safety aspect in his post's caption, acknowledging that "eating something that’s not from a known source is tricky" and suggesting that a simple "thank you" is usually the best way to show appreciation.
