THE first experimental Gulf Air flight fully connected via the Starlink satellite Internet service has taken off from Bahrain International Airport.
The first-of-its-kind experience for the national carrier, opened new horizons for the future of smart air travel, allowing passengers full Internet connectivity from the moment they board the aircraft until arrival at their destination.
This step coincides with the airline’s announcement of the initial rollout of Starlink service on flights to Dubai, with the service being completely free for all passengers – whether in Economy class or Falcon Gold class.
The plan is to gradually expand the service to cover various destinations and the entire fleet over the next two years.
Gulf Air chief executive officer Martin Gauss affirmed that the launch of satellite Internet marks a significant milestone in the airline’s travel experience, noting that the service will give passengers the freedom to stay connected, work and enjoy entertainment throughout the flight at no additional cost.
“We have begun activating the service on flights to Dubai as a first phase, and it will be free for all passengers without exception, whether in Economy or Falcon Gold Class. Our goal is for passengers to feel they are not leaving their digital world, even while flying at a high altitude,” he said.
Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority CEO Sara Buhiji emphasised that the partnership with Starlink represents a qualitative addition to the tourism and aviation sectors in Bahrain.
