Bahraini basketball star Bayan Salman is set to make national sporting history by becoming the first-ever Gulf national women’s player to compete in the first division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the US.
Salman will be playing as a student-athlete with the Charleston Southern University Buccaneers.
The South Carolina-based school’s women’s basketball team announced that Salman has officially signed to be part of their squad.
Salman, who has won multiple medals for Bahrain in five-on-five and 3x3 basketball at various levels, told the GDN that she will be playing while working on her MBA.
She is believed to be the first women’s player from the entire GCC to get the opportunity to play in NCAA division one basketball.
