BASKETBALL – Bahraini basketball star Bayan Salman is set to make national sporting history by becoming the first-ever women’s player from the kingdom to compete in the first division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the US.
Salman will be playing as a student-athlete with the Charleston Southern University Buccaneers.
The South Carolina-based school’s women’s basketball team announced that Salman has officially signed on to be part of their squad.
Salman confirmed this with the GDN and said that she will be playing while pursuing her Master of Business Administration degree.
Salman is one of the kingdom’s top women’s basketball players, having won multiple medals at various levels for Bahrain’s national teams in both five-on-five and 3x3 basketball.
The feisty and sharp-shooting guard, who can play both backcourt positions, is believed to be the first women’s player from the entire GCC to be playing in NCAA division one basketball.
Bahrain has had a number of men’s players compete in the NCAA’s first division in past seasons.
