Limited quantities of locally caught shrimp reached Bahrain’s markets yesterday, driving up prices as fishermen, fish vendors and consumers await the wider return of the Bahraini catch.
A full box (thalajah) of large local shrimp was selling for around BD170, while the retail price stood at BD4 per kg.
A box of small shrimp was priced at BD110, with the retail price reaching BD3 per kg.
The shortage was not limited to shrimp. Markets also experienced a decline in supplies of locally caught fish, pushing prices higher.
Safi was selling at BD3.5 per kg, hamour at BD7, chanaad at BD5 and shaari at BD3 per kg.
