BBK has highlighted the growing impact of the SME Fund in empowering local enterprises, following the deployment of BD2.879 million in financing to 46 businesses since March 2026.
Small enterprises made up the majority of beneficiaries at 72 per cent, followed by medium-sized enterprises at 22pc and micro-enterprises at 6pc.
The trading sector received 59pc of the total funds, with services securing 27pc and manufacturing taking 9pc, alongside support for transport, technology, and media sectors.
Launched in November 2025 with over $185m in capital, the fund is managed by Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) in partnership with BBK, local banks, and Tamkeen.
BBK chief treasury and investments officer Mohamed Al Rayes described the bank’s equity stake as a strategic investment in the private sector’s resilience.
“The diversity of beneficiaries shows the fund is reaching a broad segment of Bahrain’s business community,” Mr Al Rayes said, noting that BBK executive representation on the fund’s board ensures strong governance and effective capital deployment.
BDB chief banking officer Ali Alaradi said the bank leverages its deep market experience to structure financing around exact cash-flow needs.
“Our focus is on advancing an efficient, flexible financing model that facilitates access to funding while maintaining a sustainable portfolio,” Mr Alaradi added.
The Sharia-compliant fund provides up to five-year financing for working capital and operational needs, with Tamkeen subsidising up to 50pc of the profit rate for eligible businesses aligned with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
