Violin sensation Ganga Sasidharan took the stage at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam’s (BKS) Diamond Jubilee Hall, serenading music lovers with an exquisite performance.
The performance was part of BKS’ second phase of Onam celebrations, Sraavanam 2026, that kicked off last night.
The 13-year-old violin prodigy who won the prestigious Shanmukhananda Bharat Ratna Dr M S Subbulakshmi Fellowship for Music (2024-2026) performed evocative Carnatic music for a hall of spellbound attendees, highlighting Kerala’s musical heritage.
The September lineup of the Sraavanam celebrations will feature music, dance, cultural programmes and competitions.
Tonight at 6pm, more than 100 women will take part in a grand ‘Mega Thiruvathira’ celebration, with Kerala culture and tourism minister P C Vishunadh as the chief guest.
Tomorrow, there will be dessert and fashion competitions at 7.30pm. The Payasam competition will see home chefs making and sharing the traditional South Indian sweet pudding dish, while the Onappudava contest will showcase traditional garment designs for the harvest festival of Onam.
On Sunday at 7.30pm, there will be an Onappattu competition, where teams will perform Malayalam songs dedicated to the Onam festival.
