Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday commended the pioneering progress achieved in GCC joint municipal work and the significant transformation witnessed by the sector.
He noted that municipal work has evolved beyond the provision of basic services to embrace advanced strategies and innovative solutions, in line with global best practices and the latest developments in planning and sustainable development.
This came as the Deputy Prime Minister received GCC Secretary-General Jasem Al Budaiwi, along with the ministers, officials and heads of delegations participating in the 29th meeting of the GCC Ministers Responsible for Municipal Affairs.
The meeting is being hosted by Bahrain as part of its presidency of the 46th session of the GCC Supreme Council, the Bahrain Summit.
Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak was present.
Shaikh Khalid affirmed Bahrain’s continued, steadfast support, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the various tracks of GCC joint action, particularly in the municipal sector.
“This support aims to advance the visions and aspirations of the GCC leaders and contribute to the development and prosperity of the people of the region,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that the outcomes of municipal work are directly reflected in citizens’ daily quality of life, noting that the sector has become a cornerstone in developing infrastructure that attracts investment and supports economic growth.
This places municipalities at the heart of efforts to achieve the GCC countries’ ambitious development and economic visions, he said.
The participants conveyed the greetings of their leaders to His Majesty and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Shaikh Khalid conveyed the greetings of the King and HRH Prince Salman to the GCC leaders.
He expressed hope that the meeting would result in effective outcomes and decisions that enhance the efficiency of municipal work and support comprehensive development across the GCC countries.
Shaikh Khalid commended the dedicated efforts of the ministries responsible for municipal affairs in the GCC countries, as well as the GCC Secretariat-General, in co-ordinating and unifying joint efforts.
The participating officials affirmed their determination to continue efforts to strengthen integration in the municipal sector and further develop its outcomes in support of the GCC countries’ development visions.
