Bahrain have opened their campaign in the 20th Asian Games in Japan today morning with a resounding 89-85 victory over the Philippines in the men's five-on-five basketball tournament.
The Bahrainis led by double digits early in the final quarter and staved off a late rally from the defending champions to come away with the win in Group C of the preliminary round.
JaKarr Sampson scored 24 points to pace Bahrain, while Mustafa Hussain and Elijah Thomas added 20 apiece.
Basketball is one of a number of sports that will see action before the official opening of this year's Asian Games on September 19.
