Charles Leclerc claimed pole position for the season-opening feature race in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, being held in support of the 2017 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.
The PREMA Racing ace clocked a fastest lap time of one minute 38.907 seconds. He was 0.678 seconds quicker than teammate Antonio Fuoco who locked up the front row for their team.
Nyck de Vries of Rapax qualified in third place 0.758s back.
Norman Nato was fourth, Luca Ghiotto fifth, Nobuharu Matsushita sixth, Artem Markelov seventh and Oliver Rowland eighth.
The weekend’s feature race, over 32 laps, is scheduled for a 1.10pm start today.
