The Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Mosque has been renamed after Mariam, mother of Prophet Isa, according to Al Bayan newspaper.
Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and UAE Armed Forces Deputy Supreme Commander Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued directives to rename the mosque, which is located in Al Mushraf area.
“The move aims at highlighting common human bonds and spiritual values linking all religions,” said UAE Minister of State for Tolerance Shaikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qassimi.
She paid tribute to Shaikh Mohammed for the noble gesture which, she said, will project a bright image about the UAE as a country of tolerance and co-existence.
