The author of one of the most famous felines in children’s literature is set to publish a new book inspired by her latest cat Katinka.
Judith Kerr is the much-loved author and illustrator behind the Mog series, which first appeared in 1970, with the last book published in 2015.
Almost 50 years later and having recently celebrated her 94th birthday, Kerr said the upcoming release of Katinka’s Tail will be this autumn.
Like the Mog series, the new story of “a perfectly ordinary pussycat, with a not-quite-so-ordinary tail” is inspired by Kerr’s observations of her cat Katinka.
The whimsical new picture book promises to feature the warm humour and imaginative artwork that fans have come to know and love, which made the Mog series a staple on bookshelves for generations of children.
The Mog books began with Mog the Forgetful Cat, which featured the Thomas’ and their two children, who have appeared in 17 other books.
In 2002, Kerr took the unusual decision among children’s authors to kill off her main character, although Mog was resurrected for a television series of the same name.
Kerr is also known for her 1968 debut The Tiger Who Came to Tea, which was a bedtime story she had made up for her daughter.
During her career, the beloved author has sold more than 10 million books around the world and seen her work translated into 20 languages.
Katinka’s Tail is available for pre-order from www.amazon.com and www.harpercollins.co.uk for £12.99.
