Dubai: The overall rate of deaths resulting from traffic accidents has dropped in Dubai over the past nine months by 32 per cent.
According to statistics released by the General Directorate of Traffic in Dubai, 100 people died in road accidents from January to September, down from 148 during the same period last year.
Twenty-seven people were killed and 239 suffered multiple injuries in 248 run-over accidents, reported Emarat Alyoum.
Last year, 40 people died and 246 were wounded over nine months in 276 run-over accidents
The traffic authorities launched a campaign to reduce deadly accidents by using modern technologies and intensifying police deployments.
"The new amended law on traffic violations has also contributed to reducing accident-related deaths”, said General Directorate of Traffic director Brigadier Saif Muhair Al-Mazroui.
