Muscat: Preparations are in full swing to inaugurate the new Muscat International Airport on the 20th of March.
“The old airport will be shut down and operations will be relocated to the new airport”, said the Public Authority for Civil Aviation.
The regulatory authority announced that the first flight will hit the tarmac of the new state-of-the-art airport on March 20 – around 6 PM, according to Watan.
The final flight from the old Muscat International Airport will take off at 3pm the same day, authorities revealed during a press conference, adding that preparations to open the new airport have reached 89% and will be completed by March14.
PACA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammed Al Zaabi said that 40 readiness tests, out of 45 scheduled tests, have so far been carried out, involving 21,999 volunteers.
Two mock evacuation massive operations have also been carried out, involving more than 4000 volunteers.
The number of simulated flights reached 786, and more than 82,000 bags were handled.
