MANAMA: Professional-services firm Grant Thornton Bahrain has announced the launch of advisory on robotic process automation (RPA) – the use of sophisticated ‘software robots’ to manage the routine computer-based tasks normally handled by humans.
Explaining the need for the service, Grant Thornton Bahrain business risk services partner Sunil Thakkar said, “As disruption in the marketplace gets accelerated, organisations are increasingly looking to adopt technology and automation solutions to improve efficiency, streamline processes and increase productivity in their businesses.
“RPA is a technology tool aimed at automating the mundane high-volume, repetitive, and rules-based business activities for both front office and back office that require a great deal of time and manual effort.
“Through the use of RPA, a business can leverage the software “robot” or “bot” to process transactions, capture or manipulate data, generate automatic responses, communicate with customers or other systems, and so on in the same manner as the prescribed manual pathways taken by a human,” added Mr Thakkar.
According to him, in addition to the obvious benefit of cost-reduction, RPA technology allows the business to achieve greater operational efficiency, increase scalability and flexibility, and improve customer experiences.
“As businesses focus on providing the ultimate customer experience, the need to provide quick, accurate solutions, anytime, anywhere is the key. There are four key elements that businesses need to consider before implementing RPA, i.e. process types, volumes, inefficiencies and nature of industry,” said Mr Thakkar.
Grant Thornton Bahrain IT advisory director Navneet Sharma said, “Selecting the right automation solution for your business is essential. For some processes simple RPA might be the right solution, while for some processes would require complex integration of technology, ultimately it is important to implement the right automation.”
The Bahrain operation also has an alliance with Grant Thornton India to tap into its RPA advisory know-how, especially its experience optimising and re-designing complex business processes for companies across multiple industries.
