Kuwait City - Hundreds of people suffered food poisoning after eating Falafel from a restaurant in the neighborhood of Hawali in Kuwait.
The Ministry of Health activated the emergency plan as the number of people suffering from food poisoning rose to 287.
A group of 192 patients were rushed to Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital and the remaining 17 cases were admitted to the Amiri Hospital for urgent treatment. Dozens of patients were also admitted to other hospitals.
Under the emergency plan, all doctors and paramedics had been summoned to provide medical care to the patients and deal with the cases of food poisoning which started yesterday.
Health Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Mustapha Redha visited the two hospitals to be reassured about the patients’ conditions and follow up different cases.
The Public authority for Food and Nutrition deputy director Dr. Amal Al-Rashdan issued an edict shutting down the restaurant.
The health authorities have so far discharged 53 patients after receiving the necessary medical treatment.
