Bahrain’s official slaughterhouse in Sitra resumed operations after it was closed down for three years for being deemed unfit for the purpose.
Members of the public seeking to buy or slaughter livestock visited the facility, said Bahrain Livestock Company chairman Ibrahim Zainal.
The company has implemented all recommendations specified by the Financial and Administrative Audit Bureau and Animal Health and Monitoring Department, he said, stressing that licensed abattoirs will help get rid of slaughterhouses with substandard facilities.
Meanwhile, the owner of the accredited abattoir in Hamala, Abdulrahman Al Mutawa, urged to form a committee from Agriculture and Marine Resources Affairs to shut down unlicensed abattoirs and set up accredited ones in Muharraq, Manama and Riffa to meet the kingdom’s needs in this regard, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
