BAHRAIN’S campaigns in bowling, jiujitsu, sailing and shooting continued with mixed results yesterday at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta.
The bowling team put in a solid effort in challenging for a respectable finish in the men’s team of six event.
In jiujitsu, all three athletes lost their bouts while in sailing Abdulla Janahi continued to perform well in the Laser Standard category and in shooting Bahrain’s participants made a solid start in their two-day events yesterday.
In bowling, Bahrain’s Yusuf Falah, Ahmed Al Awadhi, Osama Hasan, Ahmed Algoud, Abdulla Ali and Omar Almudhahki scored a total of 7,863 pins between them to rank 12th overall among 17 teams.
South Korea claimed the gold with an 8,540 total while Hong Kong the silver with 8,175 and Chinese Taipei the bronze with 8,166.
The men’s masters event will be held today but it was still unknown last night if any Bahraini had qualified for the event.
In jiujitsu, Bahrain’s Mohamed Abudrees lost to Darkhan Nortayev of Kazakhstan 0-2 in the Newaza men’s under-62kg pre-quarter-finals while compatriot Abdulla Munfaredi lost 2-4 to Omar Alfadhli of the UAE at the same stage.
In jiujitsu’s Newaza men’s under-94kg quarter-finals, Bahrain’s Mohamed Ghareeb lost to Faisal Alketbi of the UAE 0-3. Ghareeb had progressed to the quarter-finals following a 0-0 final result against Chang-Chih Lin of Chinese Taipei.
Steady
Action in jiujitsu continues today with Nijad Algosaibi facing Abdul Rehman of Pakistan in the Newaza men’s under-77kg pre-qaurter-finals.
Meanwhile, Janahi put up a steady performance in sailing finishing race three and four in ninth position, before improving it to eight in the fifth.
Race six and seven are scheduled for today.
In shooting, Bahrain’s Hasan Mohammed ranked 20th overall after the first day of qualification in the men’s skeet competition with a 69, not far behind joint-leaders Usman Chand of Pakistan and Vladislav Mukhamediyev of Kazakhstan, who finished on 75 each.
A total of 30 shooters are taking part in the competition,and they are all scheduled to continue their battle on day two today.
In the corresponding women’s event, Maryam Hassani ranked 13th with a 64 while the leader at the end of the day was Sutiya Jiewchaloemmit with a 73.
Nineteen shooters are competing in the event which they continue today with day two of qualification.
