The UAE authorities are likely to extend the ongoing visa amnesty scheme, Khaleej Times reported, citing immigration sources in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
The amnesty, which was launched on August 1, will end on Wednesday (October 31).
Diplomatic missions have reportedly requested the UAE government to extend the scheme to give illegal residents more time to regularise their status.
A top UAE official said that a decision to extend the visa amnesty by either one month or 45 days, will be announced.
Thousands of illegal residents have used the amnesty scheme to either exit the country as legal residents or get a six-month job-seeker visa.
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai had announced that over 25,000 new sponsor visas were issued and around 2,900 residencies were renewed during the first month of amnesty.
