Iraq’s south Basra province is planning to build a 1,152-metre skyscraper.
The tower is expected to be taller than Dubai’s Burj Khalifa which is currently the tallest building in the world.
If the proposed tower is completed it would also surpass the under-construction Kingdom Tower in Jeddah.
According to an AMBS architect proposal, the Bride Tower would comprise of 230 storeys, which will be topped by 188-metre tall antenna and would include four conjoined towers.
The ground would be covered by a glazed canopy on its south facade, which is referred as a ‘veil’
The design provides shade to the building’s low risings and public areas.
The three other towers within the structure would be 724 metres, 484 metres and 61 metres.
The city of Basra which is a rapidly growing business hub and has been nicknamed the Bride of the Gulf, hence the name of the building.
Talking about the project, architects described it as ‘the first vertical city in the world’ which would not only be the tallest building but would also break new grounds in engineering and vertical transportation.
The tower would have offices, hotels, residential area, commercial centres, parks and gardens as well as it own rail network that would span across 1,550, 908 square metres of floor space.
"Super-tall towers are perceived as an object in the distance," said AMBS.
"An alien planted in the city, disconnected from the urban scale at ground level. The Bride, on the other hand, will be conceived as a city itself both vertically but also horizontally from the ground."
"It will be enjoyed by thousands of people in endless ways, within it, on it or under it," the firm added.
"From walking in the vast shaded parks and promenades at ground level, to having lunch or shopping in a sky-square hundreds of metres above sea level."
