MANAMA: A new national identity card has been unveiled by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.
The new generation of ID was announced yesterday in presence of Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and Information and eGovernment Authority chief executive Mohammed Al Qaed.
The Crown Prince highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to improving government services by incorporating latest technological standards.
He stressed the importance of continuing with the development and modernisation of all processes within government, as well as increasing the use of technology in national initiatives and projects.
The Interior Minister said the new generation ID cards, with advanced technical features, marked a milestone in the modernisation strategy implemented by the ministry.
He stressed that significant security and data protection characteristics were incorporated into the cards’ design to prevent inappropriate use.
He concluded by adding that other special features, including those for people with special needs, safe travel and fast track in international airports, were also added.
