Manama: Bahrain Football Association (BFA) has banned Al Hidd and national team striker Abdulwahab Al Malood for 30 days for missing the national team’s training camp prior to Bahrain’s World Cup and Asian Cup qualifier against North Korea earlier this month, reports Mazin Rizk.
Al Malood defended his absence by claiming he could not afford to miss his classes at the university.
However, Al Hidd president Ahmed Al Musallam hit out at BFA over the ban.
“This is not a fair punishment for a player like Abdulwahab Al Malood. He never refused national duty before. He has always worked for the national team,” Al Musallam said.
“The club is forced to enforce the ban and lose the player for our next matches. We will boycott any communication with the BFA. We have always backed BFA even though they have committed big mistakes in recent years,” he continued.
“Everyone knows about the errors of the association in recent times. How can the players transfer committee raise the issue of a player’s absence? How can the transfer committee expect us to enforce the punishment? How can we enforce a punishment if it is sent to us from the wrong committee within the BFA?” Al Musallam added.
Al Musallam also confirmed that the club will not fall ‘victim’ to the actions of BFA and will be announcing its next course of action in the coming days.
