Bahrain's most prominent philanthropist Shaikha Lulwa bint Mohammed Al Khalifa has died.
Shaikha Lulwa, who was at the forefront of voluntary work for more than six decades, was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 alongside three Bahraini women.
She was also honoured as Bahrain’s top social voluntary pioneer in 2010 by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and Supreme Council for Women president. The first women’s society in Bahrain, the Children and Mothers Welfare Society, was launched by Shaikha Lulwa in 1953.
She passed on her passion for civic engagement to her daughter Shaikha Hind bint Salman Al Khalifa, who is also Al Rashid Group chairwoman.
