The 63rd National film Awards were held last evening in New Delhi. The awards were presented by President Pranab Mukherjee while finance Minister Arun Jaitley addressed the function.
Kangana Ranaut and Amitabh Bachchan received National Awards for best actress and best actor respectively, for their films 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Piku'.
Mr Bachchan received the prize for his role in Shoojit Sircar's 'Piku', in which he played cantankerous old man Bhashkor Banerjee.
Big B, who walked away with his fourth National Award was accompanied by his family including wife Jaya Bachchan, son Abhishek Bachchan, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
He received the Rajat Kamal and Rs.50,000. This is the 73-year-old actor's fourth National award. He previously won national awards in 1990 ('Agneepath'), 2005 ('Black') and 2009 ('Paa').
Kangana, 29, who is currently engaged in a bitter legal fued with actor Hrithik Roshan, won the award for her double role in Anand L Rai's romantic comedy drama 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' of a troublesome wife Tanu and Haryanvi sportsperson Datto. She also received Rajat Kamal and Rs.50,000.
Kangana Ranaut today turned up with her father, mother, sister and brother to receive her third National award.
Kangana’s father Amardeep Ranaut said it was a proud moment to see his daughter receive her third National Award from President Pranab Mukherjee here.
The actress looked gorgeous in a pink off-shoulder gown from Beirut-based Lebanese designer Georges Chakra.
She teamed her gown with a classic bob, which is similar to the look that she will be seen sporting in her upcoming film 'Rangoon'.
