Muscat: Minister of Transport and Communications Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al- Futaisi said that the completion rate in the terminal of Muscat International Airport reached 91 percent.
This suggests that all construction works for this important package in the airport project will be completed by the end of this year.
He said that screening and training processes and measuring the operational readiness will start immediately after the completion of the construction of the passenger terminal, adding that this will be achieved with the speed of the remaining works completion of the third package, which is done by more than 20,000 workers, praising the fruitful efforts made by the contractors, consultants and supervisors of the project and all others working with them, looking to put more efforts in the next stage.
He added that with the completion of work at this stage, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the relevant authorities will receive the project from the contractor, and the entry of the readiness team to start screening devices for operation.
Dr. Mohammed bin Nasser al- Za'abi, CEO of the Public Authority of Civil Aviation said that the construction works for travelers in the passenger terminal of Muscat International Airport are going at an accelerated pace, and that the construction works of the terminal are almost completed, adding that the third package work is at its interior finishes stage for the terminal, including the final installation services, and interior finishes to the main airport buildings.
He added that the capacity of Muscat International Airport at the opening will be around 12 million passengers a year.
There is a plan to use the current Muscat International Airport, for economic aviation or general aviation.
He also explained that there is a study being carried out to increase the capacity from 12 million passengers per year to more than 20 million passengers and there are subsequent stages to the level of service for up to 48 million passengers.
