A 42-year-old male expatriate who tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving in the country infected 26 people.
Contact tracing of the expatriate resulted in detection of six new cases among his co-workers.
Further contact tracing of one of the co-workers revealed an additional 20 cases of secondary infections, which includes more co-workers and a colleague’s wife.
The details were revealed last night in the weekly contact tracing update, from February 18 to February 24.
A total of 4,801 confirmed cases were registered, of which 3,050 were Bahrainis and 1,751 expatriates. Seventy-six cases were travel-related.
Overall the average number of Covid-19 cases per day dropped to 685.9 from 779 a week earlier.
A 31-year-old male expatriate tested positive after developing symptoms, and contact tracing revealed 18 positive cases among his co-workers who share accommodation in five different locations.
Another case was of a 78-year-old female citizen, who tested positive after developing symptoms. Contact tracing revealed nine positive cases from five households, all of whom had direct contact with the index case. They include her daughters, son, and grandchildren, and further contact tracing of the daughters revealed four cases of secondary infections that include direct members of their family.
“This cluster resulted in a total of 13 positive cases from eight different households,” stated the latest Health Ministry’s update.
A 39-year-old female citizen who tested positive through random screening was found to have infected 13 others.
Four positive cases were from the same household – including the index case’s brother, sisters-in-law and nephew.
Further contact tracing of the nephew revealed an additional nine positive cases of secondary infection, also within the family, and include his parents, brothers, uncle, uncle’s wife and cousins.
A 24-year-old male citizen who tested positive through random screening infected 11 others, including his friend and a team member from the same sports activity. Contact tracing of the team member revealed an additional nine positive cases of secondary infections, including his parents, wife, son, brothers, their wives and his nephews.
Furthermore, 12 work-related cases were linked to a 41-year-old male expatriate who tested positive after developing symptoms. Seven co-workers tested positive and further contact tracing of two of the co-workers revealed five additional case.
