MANAMA: His Majesty King Hamad has been conferred with an honorary doctorate by Moscow State University for International Relations, in appreciation of his role in promoting peaceful coexistence and dialogue between religions and cultures.
Commissioned by His Majesty, Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani received in Moscow yesterday the decision of the university’s board of trustees to bestow the honour.
The Foreign Minister met university president Dr Anatoly Torkunov, in the presence of Foreign Ministry Political Affairs Under-Secretary Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Russia Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Saati and the university’s educational staff.
Dr Al Zayani, in his speech, conveyed His Majesty’s greetings and his appreciation to the university’s board of trustees.
He expressed his pride in the honour bestowed upon the King by the prestigious university, pointing out His Majesty’s sincere efforts to consolidate values of peaceful coexistence and dialogue between religions and cultures as well as the principles of peace.
Dr Al Zayani said His Majesty’s deep belief in these lofty principles and values has led him to launch many good initiatives, including the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, the King Hamad Chair for Inter-religious Dialogue and Peaceful Coexistence at the Italian Sapienza University, and the Bahrain Declaration.
“The King’s humanitarian visions culminated in his historic decision to declare support for peace with Israel, and sign the Abraham Principles Agreement,” he added.
Dr Torkunov expressed the university’s pride in awarding His Majesty an honorary doctorate in appreciation of his efforts to support security, peace and stability in the East Middle and the world.
