Kuwait: Kuwait has topped the list of countries with most obese people in the world, according to an international annual survey.
The updated report which was published in the gazettereview.com describes Kuwait as “king of the fattest countries in the world” with a 42.8 per cent rate of obesity, reported local Arabic daily Al-Rai.
The definition of overweight is a weight-to-height Body Mass Index (BMI) ratio of 25 of 25 or more. A BMI greater than or equal to 30 is obesity.
The annual survey is based on the official data obtained from governments all over the world and World Health Organization (WHO) criteria and rules.
The list of top ten obese countries also includes Saudi Arabia (35.2pc), the Kingdom of Belize (34.9pc), Egypt (34.6pc), Jordan (34.3pc), UAE (33.7pc) South Africa (33.5pc), Qatar (33.1pc), Mexico (32.8pc) and the United States of America (31.8pc).
The American news website also said that Kuwait has the highest rates of stomach stapling of any country.
“Like other countries on this list, the increased prosperity from oil, the influx of American food, and different cultural ideas about weight and eating have led to very high rates of overweight and obese people in Kuwait”, the website said.
