Abu Dhabi: A bakery was closed in Ras Al Khaimah after an Emirati woman found insects in bread in Al-Sakaniya district.
The woman, Oum Ali, lodged a complaint with RAK Municipality directorate of public health after she discovered the insects in Samoon bread (Iraqi Khobus).
The woman said that she bought the bread from a cold store near her house and found small insects and cockroaches in it.
A health inspector went to the woman’s house, took a sample of the bread and sent it to the laboratory which showed the presence of insects, said RAK Municipality health director Shaima’a Al-Tabanji.
A team of inspectors went to the bakery and found the outlet infested with insects following which the bakery was shut down.
Al-Tabanji said that the bakery will not be allowed to reopen unless hygienic conditions are improved, reported local Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm.
