THE growing popularity of ‘K-food’ has been showcased at LuLu Hypermarket’s ongoing Korean Food Festival.
Inaugurated by Korean Ambassador Hae Kwan Chung, a whole world of Korean culinary experience awaits shoppers until Wednesday.
The opening ceremony was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, VIPs and Korean food enthusiasts. There was food sampling, cookery demonstrations, cultural dancing shows and even a popular game stall based on the K-drama hit Netflix series Squid Games.
Mr Chung said the K-food Festival was part of the embassy’s efforts to share its cultural highlights with Bahrain.
“I am very happy to share the best of Korean food with Bahrain’s residents through LuLu Hypermarket,” he said. “Many fans of Korean popular culture can get a true taste of our cuisine.”
Specially-imported Korean food items such as the country’s famous kimchi, different flavours of noodles, seaweed crisps, sweet pancake mix and sauces have arrived.
Kimchi is a spicy vegetable dish that consists of one or more pickled and fermented vegetables, especially cabbage and radishes, with various seasonings such as garlic, red chili pepper, ginger, scallions and anchovy paste.
It’s the national dish of South Korea and experts suggest that to many Koreans, life without kimchi, which accompanies every meal, is ‘unthinkable’.
These products are available at LuLu Hypermarket Dana Mall, LuLu Hypermarket Juffair and Lulu Hypermarket Atrium Mall, Saar, and there is a 30 per cent discount in the form of LuLu shopping vouchers on all purchases of Korean items above BD4.
“2021 marks the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Korea and Bahrain and LuLu is very pleased to showcase Korean food for Bahrain shoppers,” said director of LuLu Group Juzer Rupawala.
“We welcome customers to experience a taste of Korea with LuLu.”
