MORE than 500 bikers took to Bahrain’s roads yesterday to mark ‘Movember’ and raise awareness about men’s health.
The event, jointly organised by Bahrain Bikers and Bahrain Motorcycle Club (BMC), saw the men and women ride from Hamala to Sakhir and back.
Bahrain Bikers’ road captains and activities head Mahdi Hasan was excited to see participants of all nationalities queing up to take part.
“It was a great event and we saw more than 500 people joining the 40-minute ride for a cause,” said Mr Hasan.
“It was aimed at creating awareness about men’s issues – popularly known as Movember, marked every November.
“We gathered at the Al Liwan Mall in Hamala at 7am and all the preparatory activities such as medical tests and first aid sessions were held. Many participants sported artificial moustache, we also had a DJ entertaining us.
“People from all nationalities took part. There were bikers from various clubs and associations, it was an exciting multinational event.
“We are grateful to all our sponsors who made it successful.”
Started in 2003 by Australians Travis Farone and Luke Slattery, Movember has grown into a worldwide movement.
It encourages men to grow out their facial hair during this month to raise awareness about health issues such as prostate cancer and testicular cancer besides suicide.
Mr Hasan said the group was planning another event to mark Bahrain National Day on December 16 and 17, while international road trips are also on the cards.
“We are planning yet another joint venture with BMC next month to mark National Day – we are waiting for some approvals as we are charting the action plan,” he said.
“Next year – 2022 – we are planning some international road trips and are looking forward to it.”
Earlier this month, 10 of Bahrain’s women bikers rode together in solidarity to raise awareness about men’s physical and mental health.
