GCC Secretary General Jasem Al Budaiwi strongly condemned the Houthi militia’s attack on Najran, in Saudi Arabia, which injured several civilians.
The Secretary General said the attack reflects the criminal nature of the Houthi militia and constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
He described the deliberate and indiscriminate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure as a crime that requires accountability and warned that such attacks threaten regional and international security and stability.
He emphasised that the security of Saudi Arabia is an integral part of the security of the GCC member states and reiterated the GCC’s full solidarity with the kingdom and its support for all measures it takes to safeguard its security, sovereignty, territorial integrity and the safety of its citizens and residents.
Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam also condemned the terrorist attack.
In a cable sent to Saudi Shura Council Speaker Shaikh Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh, Mr Al Musallam affirmed the Parliament’s continued co-ordination with its Saudi counterpart to present a unified position on Iranian terrorist attacks at regional and international parliamentary forums and enhance parliamentary diplomacy.
The Speaker said the escalation constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law and represents an attempt to undermine the security and stability of Saudi Arabia and the region.
Mr Al Musallam reiterated Bahrain’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty, security, citizens and civilian infrastructure, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
He stressed that the security of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia is indivisible and that any attack on Saudi Arabia’s security is an attack on Bahrain and all GCC member states. He added that the long-standing relations between the two kingdoms, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the directives and support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud continue to reinforce their shared security and common destiny.
Mr Al Musallam urged the international community to adopt a firm stance to condemn the Houthi militia, hold it accountable, and cut off its sources of funding and arms to help protect civilians and preserve regional security and stability.
The Speaker also reaffirmed Bahrain’s appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s efforts to reach a comprehensive and lasting political solution to the Yemeni crisis in accordance with the agreed references, while preserving Yemen’s unity and sovereignty and fulfilling the aspirations of its people for security, stability and prosperity.
Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh condemned the terrorist attack in a cable sent to Saudi Shura Council Speaker. Mr Al Saleh reaffirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its steadfast support for all measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty, security and stability, and protect its citizens and civilian and vital facilities. He also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Mr Al Saleh emphasised that the attack represents a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law and the United Nations Charter.
