ARTISTS from across the kingdom are coming together for a three-day ‘Art Jam’ during the National Day weekend to funnel their patriotic pride into creativity to support noble causes.
Art Jam Bahrain, being organised by the Rotary Satellite Club of Manama Youth (RSCMY), comprises a graffiti art live painting competition, an art and craft fair and open-air live painting, all taking place outdoors at The Lagoon in Amwaj.
The RSCMY falls under the umbrella of the Rotary Club of Manama.
“We wanted to highlight local artists during National Day, while raising money for some of our annual causes,” RSCMY chairperson Mohammed Al Legawy told the GDN.
“We are thankful to our local partners who helped make this event a success and are hoping to put a portion of each sale at the event towards the Rotary Club of Manama’s initiatives around sickle cell and autism research, awareness and support.”
Ten artists are taking part in the live graffiti art competition, during which they are creating National Day-inspired pieces.
Some of the best artists of the Art Attack Krew (ATK), which in 2020 worked with Rotaract Bahrain to paint the side of The Avenues Bahrain on National Day, are taking part in the contest.
Prizes include art supplies and vouchers from local businesses supporting the initiative.
Street artist Salman Aljar, 22, has spray-painted a stunning illustration of a woman with the Bahraini flag illuminated on her face.
“To be honest, I was inspired by a number of faces including singer Billie Eilish, and I am blown away myself by how it turned out,” added the artist, who has been dabbling in graffiti for slightly more than a year now.
Meanwhile, Aref Ghuloom, who originally founded ATK, turned to the group to give him ideas and ended up with a colourful canvas before he could add some of his own signature touches to it.
The artists will finish up their pieces today and judges will drop by in the evening to give them their verdict.
Alongside, Bahraini singer May Alqasim will be performing at the event and there is also a Classic Car Show set to be staged right outside the Lagoon shopping mall.
The event ends today.
